Rotary Webb Scholarship
Scholarship Policies and Redemption Procedures
1. Eligibility
To be eligible for the Webb Scholarship, students must have attended Webb Elementary School for at least one year during their education.
2. Scholarship Application and Redemption
Required Documentation
Applications must include the following documentation: (1) a PDF of the student’s transcript (unofficial is acceptable) from each college or trade institution attended; (2) a PDF of either the student’s enrollment confirmation or financial account statement — financial statements confirm enrollment for the award year, and the scholarship is available regardless of other aid received; and (3) the student’s AISD number, if known.
Application Deadlines
Applications must be received by the applicable deadline for the term in which the student seeks funding. The deadline for the fall semester is October 1. The deadline for the spring semester is March 1. For summer/mini-mester terms, applications must be received no later than one month prior to the start of the term for which the student is applying.
Progress Toward a Degree
| Students must be making satisfactory progress toward an Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or certificate program. The Webb Scholarship has no minimum GPA requirement; however, students must meet the following completion thresholds based on the number of credit hours attempted: Credits Attempted | Credits Earned |
| 0–29 | 50% |
| 30–100 | 67% |
| 101 or more | 80% |
In addition to meeting the above completion thresholds, students must be making meaningful progress toward degree completion. Students are expected to enroll in at least 24 credit hours
per calendar year, inclusive of two full semesters and any summer or mini-mester sessions in which they participate.
Attendance Requirement
Students must be actively attending classes in order for scholarship funds to be released to their student account. Funds will not be released prior to the institution’s census date with the exception of tuitions and fees due prior to the census date. Students are encouraged to contact the scholarship administrator with questions regarding the timing of fund disbursements.
3. Full Term Awards
Students may receive a Full Term Award of $1,000 up to twice per academic year, applicable to the fall and spring semesters (or equivalent term in a trimester or quarterly system). Over the course of a student’s academic career, a maximum of eight (8) Full Term Awards may be received.
Students who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher may be eligible for an Academic Excellence Award of an additional $500, awarded alongside each qualifying Full Term Award. The Academic Excellence Award must be approved concurrently with the Full Term Award at the time of application.
4. Summer and Mini-Mester Awards
Students who are making meaningful progress toward an Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or certificate, and who are in good academic standing, may apply for a Summer/Mini-Mester Award. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an average of at least 9 credit hours per semester (fall and spring) during the academic year.
The Summer/Mini-Mester Award is $750 and may be received only once per calendar year, regardless of the number of summer or mini-mester sessions in which the student enrolls. Students may receive a maximum of four (4) Summer/Mini-Mester Awards over the course of their academic career.
5. Excess Funds
Any Webb Scholarship funds remaining in a student’s school account at the end of any academic term are payable to the student with the following exception: if the student withdraws from enrollment prior to completing a term and there are remaining funds from the Webb Scholarship then such funds are to be refunded to the Arlington Rotary Foundation.
6. Institutional Accreditation
Degree-granting institutions must hold institutional accreditation from SACSCOC or another recognized institutional accrediting body. Trade and vocational institutions must satisfy at least one of the following criteria: (1) accreditation by ACCSC; (2) licensure, certification, or approval by the State of Texas or a regulatory agency of the State; (3) eligibility for federal student aid funds under Title IV (including Pell Grants and federal loans); or (4) recognized industry certification relevant to the field of study (e.g., ASE certification for automotive programs, TREC licensed for real estate training).
7. Trade and Vocational Schools
The Webb Scholarship recognizes that trade and vocational institutions may operate under academic calendars and internal policies that differ significantly from those of traditional colleges and universities. Accordingly, wide latitude will be extended to students enrolled in such institutions where those institutions’ internal workings do not readily align with the deadlines or policies set forth herein. Students are encouraged to contact the scholarship administrator to discuss accommodations.
8. Exemptions
A student who is unable to meet one or more of the requirements contained in these policies may submit a written request for an exemption to the Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee will review and rule on exemption requests on a case-by-case basis. The Committee’s decision on any exemption request shall be final.
